As a woman and a mother, I know you need real information about your health. You'll get all the honesty, knowledge and compassion I have to give.

Understanding your individual needs
I always wanted to be a doctor. My uncle was an internist and my aunt was a midwife. So I grew up in a family of caregivers. As a woman, my choice seemed natural: obstetrics and gynecology. These complex fields give me the opportunity to work with women in all stages of life. I have the most rewarding job in the world.

Dr. Woodson

Leilani Misajon Woodson
M.D., FACOG

Why did you get into medicine?
I first expressed the desire to be a doctor at the age of seven. The Fisher Price Doctor's kit my parents gave me as a child is still with me today! Choosing the field of obstetrics and gynecology was completely natural. Woman's health fascinates me.

What is your favorite aspect of the physician-patient relationship?
As an obstetrician and gynecologist, I have the opportunity to form long lasting relationships with my patients. This is my goal as a physician. It is so rewarding to experience the changes we go through as women with each of my patients. Every woman is unique and I feel privileged to be a part of the journey.

Describe your family and what activities you enjoy together.
I grew up in Long Beach and am happy to return and give back to this community. We enjoy being outdoors…the beach, a concert in the park, even our backyard. As parents of three boys, we are kept very busy and loving every minute.

What are your hobbies and interests?
I enjoy reading, any kind of dancing, swimming, and spending time with my family.

I knew I wanted to be an OB-GYN in high school while volunteering in the maternity ward where my mother had worked as a nurse. I have grown to love this field that allows me to be there for a woman's most memorable and challenging experiences in life.

As your physician, my goal is to provide you with excellent care and answers to those questions that may be of concern. There is nothing more rewarding to me than forging close bonds with my patient and her family. I enjoy taking our son to the park, playing tennis, and going to the beach.

Medicine has always fascinated me since childhood. Growing up in China, I loved stories of Chinese medicine men curing diseases with simplistic techniques and herbs. When we immigrated to California, my parents worked as nursing assistants with handicapped children. Seeing their commitment and compassion in caring for them, further affirmed my decision to become a physician.

I chose OB/GYN as my specialty for many reasons. I enjoy delivering care to women of all ages, from pre-adolescent to postmenopausal, and forming life-long relationships along the way. I also love the wide range of procedures we can provide for women, from the exciting childbirth experience to complex gynecological surgeries. I also play an important role as an educator, supporter, and advocator for my patients throughout our relationship.

My best teacher has always been my patients. I learned not only about how to treat illness, but also about the humanity and humility in the art of medicine. I want to provide quality and compassionate care, one patient at a time, to promote health and well-being. I speak Mandarin Chinese fluently and am also proficient in medical Spanish. I strive to meet the needs of my patients on a personal and cultural basis.

From the very beginning, I realized that working in the medical field was always something I wanted to do. It was something that had always been a part of my life with many of my family members working as doctors and nurses. Growing up, I saw the influence and interactions that my family had on others and the difference they were making in people’s lives. I realized that this was what I wanted to do; to help others, to educate individuals and have them understand what was going on with their bodies.

As a physician assistant, I’ve had the opportunity to work in the different fields of medicine including family/internal medicine and bariatric surgery. Even with the breadth of varying fields, one common denominator has always been the key to my success: developing a meaningful relationship with the patient. To me, this entails more than just knowing a face or a name on a chart, but fostering a true relationship with the individual. A relationship in which I gain an understanding of the whole person; not just their health, but who they are. I believe that by building this kind of relationship, you can effectively address each woman’s unique lifestyle and make decisions that will not only guide her but also be effective for her particular needs. Guided by these objectives, I have been fortunate enough to forge long-lasting relationships with many of my patients who have entrusted to me their health and well-being.

My practice is guided by my desire to educate women about preventative medicine. I believe that women’s health has often taken a “back-seat” in many primary care settings, and I feel blessed to be part of a group whose focus encompasses treating and understanding the whole woman.

I chose Profession of Medicine twice. First time I was interested in all the aspects of human anatomy and art of healing; I was only 18, my intuition was telling my that this was my calling.

Second time I chose to be a Doctor again after I had to change my country and pretty much everything about my life. I realized that no matter where I am and what are the circumstances, being a doctor, being able to care for someone in the most vulnerable state feels like home anywhere in the world for me.

I have finished my first residency in Armenia in General Medicine. My family's relocation to California influenced my decision to receive General Practitioner certification for more flexible practice opportunities due to expected travel.

After making a decision to stay in California, I found new interest in minimally invasive surgeries and women's health. I found new passion in seeing women empowered, in getting best options in health care, helping to make a best decision available today not based on any limitation! Obstetrics and Gynecology became the the option that will allow me to explore all the aspects of women's health, desire to be beautiful, confident, being able to always be there for their families and loved ones.

I did two years of research fellowship at Minimally Invasive General Surgery division at USC and I have worked on embryonic stem cell research at City of Hope right before moving to Chicago where I found OB/GYN residency position.

Outside of medicine I am interested in physical fitness, travel, good drama of theatre and opera and history. I am interested in research and innovations and excited to practice. I offer enthusiasm, knowledge, experience, energy and passion for healing.

Now I am happy to move back to California, my second home, where all my family and friends are. Joining Complete Women Care where my goals and vision are being shared and supported was the best thing!

It was always a childhood dream of mine to become a doctor.  As I grew older and was exposed more to medicine and patient care, I decided to make my dream a reality.  I was very fortunate to be surrounded by support and guidance throughout my journey- beginning with my wonderful and loving parents who always believed in me.   In addition, my husband has been especially supportive through the entire process.  We met when we were starting out as pre-med students at USC and together have encouraged each other to accomplish our goals.

The field of OB-GYN is amazing and rewarding in so many ways.  As an OB-GYN, I can see a patient in clinic for outpatient care, perform needed gynecologic surgeries and be there for the most amazing experiences of a patient (or couples’) life- during the birth of their children.  It is truly a privilege to be able to help women throughout different scenarios and during different life stages.

I feel honored to be a part of Complete Women Care.  I wholeheartedly believe in the wonderful mission that this group offers.   As a doctor, I am always willing to listen to patients, and together discuss the best options for care and come up with a plan.  I feel a patient-doctor relationship is of utmost importance and it is imperative to show respect for all patients’ desires and develop a trusting bond.  I intend to provide all patients with the care that I would expect my mother or sister to receive from their physician.

What I like to do for fun:  I enjoy spending time with my husband, family and friends. When I’m not cheering on our Trojan football team, I enjoy eating out, watching movies, doing yoga, taking walks on the beach, snowboarding and traveling.
